prototype interviews

Ilena-
I like the clear look, it looks very clean and modern. Also the orange is a nice touch! I also like the handle! It looks like it would fit your hand perfectly! All together it looks and works great!

KC-
The shape of it looks very sleek, and looks like it would fit in a fridge very well. Doesn’t look like it would take up too much space and it looks like it can hold a lot of liquid. Also the clear material adds a cool element.

Make it better!

When I heard we were going to reconstruct a bad design I was actually kind of scared! I felt like i just got the hang of our other project!! but I feel like we have a good group and we are going to do a great job! I had a hard time finding a bad object after we spent such a long time working on finding good designs. I really enjoyed watching the IDEO video, it got my wheels turning in my head. It showed how they went through a redesign process, how the funny and outgoing ideas actually help the process. That was very interesting to me because i am a very out going person!! They mentioned that you need to fail often to succeed sooner which is kind of contradicting its self but makes sense at the same time. The video got me really excited to start the project and make it better!!!

5 best drawings

I think my object is a good object because it is true and honest about what it does. It is also simple and very useful. It is also very understandable, for anyone to use. It is also unobtrusive it is not a decorative object it is simply made todo its job. I also believe that my object is long-lasting, it will hold up for a long time. It also shows that less is sometimes better it focuses what it is expected to do. These are also successful drawings because they show what the object is and they are the most realistic. I like the value one because it looks cool and I think I really captured the values and the shadows and the lighting. And also the tonal ones are neat to because also look really interesting and they also show the negative and positive space.

Objectified

The movie Objectified was very interesting and intriguing. It really got me to look at everything and thinking about the design process.  Also it has now made me break down the object to see if it is truly a good and useful design. I thought it was really cool how they showed the thinking and all the prototypes they made. Also how they did research to find the best structure and quality of the object. I really enjoyed when they were talking about how they could make something better for someone who has arthritis, it really showed that a designer is really out to please the people and the customer is in their best interest.  For me being a photo media major and not ever really paying attention to the thought process and all the research and thinking was put into something simple like a potato peeler, it is truly amazing.
